To make this dish, you will need the following ingredients:
For the chicken:
- 2 lbs chicken wings or drumettes
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 cup cold water
- Oil for frying
For the sauce:
- 1/2 cup gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp sesame seeds
To start, mix together the flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and baking powder in a large bowl. Add in the cold water and whisk until a smooth batter forms.
Dip each chicken wing or drumette into the batter, making sure it is fully coated. Heat up the oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F. Carefully place the chicken into the hot oil and fry for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
While the chicken is frying, make the sauce by mixing together the gochujang, soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, minced garlic, sesame oil, and sesame seeds in a small bowl.
Once the chicken is done frying, remove it from the oil and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil. Toss the chicken in the sauce until fully coated.
Serve the Korean Fried Chicken hot and garnish with additional sesame seeds and chopped green onions, if desired. This dish is perfect as an appetizer or main course and is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
