Poppy Seed Bagels
Poppy Seed Bagels are a classic breakfast dish that is loved by many. These delicious bagels are made with a combination of flour, yeast, sugar, salt, water, and of course, poppy seeds. They are perfect for a quick breakfast or a mid-day snack.
To make Poppy Seed Bagels, you will need the following ingredients per serving:
- 1 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon of active dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon of sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 cup of warm water
- 1 tablespoon of poppy seeds
To start, mix the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Add the warm water and mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for about 30 minutes.
After the dough has rested, divide it into four equal parts. Roll each part into a ball and then flatten it into a disk. Use your fingers to make a hole in the center of each disk and stretch it out to form a bagel shape.
Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add the bagels. Boil them for about 1-2 minutes on each side until they float to the surface. Remove the bagels from the water and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Sprinkle the poppy seeds on top of the bagels and bake them in a preheated oven at 375°F for about 20-25 minutes until they are golden brown.
Poppy Seed Bagels are a delicious and satisfying breakfast dish that is perfect for any occasion. They have a chewy texture and a slightly nutty flavor from the poppy seeds. These bagels are best served warm with a smear of cream cheese or butter.
