Classic Buttermilk Biscuits

Classic Buttermilk Biscuits are a timeless Southern staple that are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or any time of day. These biscuits are light, fluffy, and have a slightly tangy flavor from the buttermilk.

Ingredients (makes 12 biscuits):

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 cup buttermilk

To make these Classic Buttermilk Biscuits, start by preheating your oven to 450°F. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add the cold, cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Use a wooden spoon or spatula to stir the mixture until it comes together into a sticky dough. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it gently a few times until it comes together into a smooth ball.
Roll the dough out to about 1/2 inch thickness and use a biscuit cutter or a glass to cut out 12 biscuits. Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.
These Classic Buttermilk Biscuits are best served warm with a pat of butter and a drizzle of honey. They have a crispy exterior and a soft, fluffy interior that will melt in your mouth.
