- 1 cup of sugar
- 1/4 cup of water
- 1/2 cup of blood orange juice
- 1/2 cup of heavy cream
- 1/2 cup of milk
- 4 eggs
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Cooking Tips:
- Use fresh blood oranges for the best flavor.
- Be careful not to overcook the sugar syrup, as it can burn quickly.
- Let the flan cool completely before serving to allow it to set properly.
Instructions:
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
2. In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and water over medium heat. Cook until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture turns a golden brown color.
3. Pour the sugar syrup into a 9-inch round baking dish, tilting the dish to coat the bottom evenly.
4. In a large bowl, whisk together the blood orange juice, heavy cream, milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
5. Pour the mixture into the baking dish over the sugar syrup.
6. Place the baking dish in a larger baking pan and fill the larger pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the baking dish.
7. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the flan is set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
8. Remove the flan from the oven and let it cool to room temperature.
9. Once cooled, run a knife around the edges of the flan to loosen it from the dish.
10. Invert the flan onto a serving platter and serve chilled.
